CHAMPAIGN -- Students celebrate their university's past, all while paving the way for the future. Millions went into renovating the UI's Lincoln Hall, but it didn't just get a new look.

It brought hundreds of jobs back to Champaign-Urbana. The project created 900 construction jobs. The money those workers spent, supported an additional 900 jobs in the community. Now, 100 years later, a building is bringing history and economy together for students.

Renovations at Lincoln hall have been in the works for years. $64 million went into the renovation. Space was added to classrooms, and new study lounges were built.

"Abraham Lincoln will be proud of what we're doing with this building," Governor Pat Quinn said.

But what do UI's own think of the new look?

"I think it's incredibly beautiful," freshman Adam Smith said.

These walls hold a lot of stories and 100 years of history. Not only that, construction helped put more than 1,000-people back to work.

"Obviously creating jobs is so important. One that has such a wide-ranging impact as renovating and education building I thought was incredibly important," Governor Quinn said.

To students, all of this is about a lot more then just construction and new paint.

"It will motivate people to study, to work, to dedicate."
