NEOGA -- Parents in Cumberland County learned more about cuts coming to their school district. Another meeting was held to prepare the community.

Board members are cutting nearly $700,000. Twelve positions including three part-time are eliminated and certain classes will be combined.

Wednesday, parents learned students will now have to pay for parking and the cost of books, athletic and academic teams are all going up. The superintendent says the cuts are the result of a lack of state funding. All plans will be finalized by March.

NEOGA -- School leaders say state funding cuts are forcing them to make a tough decision. The board proposed laying off 12 teachers.

From the staff of 55, it's roughly a fifth of its teaching staff. School officials say state funding cuts are to blame.

They've been leaning on savings to make ends meet, but now that balance is down to around $2 million. The district says that's the lowest it's been in 13-years.

District Superintendent Chuck Castle says the district can't afford to keep doing that and has already trimmed all it can.

"Anyway we can cut further is just salaries and the only way we can do that is positions," said Castle.

Layoffs are expected to save $450,000. If cuts are approved, changes could include larger class size.
