CHAMPAIGN --  Public Schools started Black History Month with "National African-American Parent Involvement Day." Jefferson Middle School, one of 18 area schools hosting events, offered a breakfast.

Parents say it's a chance to see kids and teachers in their environments. Other schools hosted lunches, book readings, assemblies and concerts.
