URBANA -- Great news for bicyclists; a 24-mile path is one step closer to Central Illinois. The Vermilion County Conservation District got a $2.1 million grant for it. The Kickapoo Trail would be built along US-150, between Danville and Urbana.

The 10'-wide path would pass through St. Joseph, Fithian and Oakwood. It's something cyclists have wanted for years.

"I think the most important piece of getting people out riding is connectivity and giving places to go. You can have a bike lane here and a bike lane there, but if they don't connect you where you wanna go, it doesn't work." Charlie Smyth said.

Negotiations for the path are still in progress. No word when construction could start.
