DCFS gets some funding restored

SPRINGFIELD -- Programs around the state are struggling to make ends meet, but a newly signed law may help with that.

Governor Quinn agreed to give more funding to agencies like the Department of Children & Family Services (DCFS). It's going to get about $25 million. Reps say it couldn't have come at a better time. They were getting ready to slash services and staff.

The extra money surfaced because some other state facilities shut down. All of those budgets have been dissolved back into the general revenue fund, making that money available for DCFS. The agency lost about $90 million budget cuts last year.

Other groups benefiting from the newly passed law include transportation projects statewide which will see $675 million. Those funds became available because of some old projects and additional federal funding.
