DECATUR -- A man was killed in an accident while working at ADM. 31-year old Michael Cordray died when scaffolding fell on him while he was working inside a tank. WCIA-3's Megan Brilley has more.

A metal beam trapped Cordray, cutting off his air supply. Coworkers couldn't reach him and called for help immediately.

"We had a call come in about a confined-space rescue."

Deputy Chief Jeff Abbott has worked for DFD for 18 years, but rarely experiences what he did Wednesday night. He and his team rushed to ADM. That's where they found Cordray trapped.

"We got a plan together of how we were going to try to get him out."

Rescuers got their gear together using ropes and monitors and rushed to save his life.

"It starts out, we think we're going to rescue somebody."

"Our job is to help and save people, and at that moment, you realize you can't save them."

Cordray wasn't breathing when they pulled him from the bin. He was pronounced dead.

"You're dealing with someone's loved one, so you try to proceed with dignity."

"You don't really feel the emotions until it's over."

But, today, for firefighters and the rest of the community, reality has set in. The city is filled with heavy hearts.

"Being a member of the fire department, it's obviously sad. Somebody lost a family member."

Police were at ADM, but say they're no longer investigating. Cordray's official cause of death will be released in March when an inquest takes place.

Update: 11:18 am

DECATUR -- The name of the man killed at the ADM plant has been released. 31-year old Michael Cordray was cleaning the interior of a bin when he became trapped.
