Neighbors devastated over friend's death
Updated: February 6, 2013
"I heard the shots and came outside and saw him laying on the ground."
Toi Lewis lives a few feet away from the crime scene. She immediately called for help.
"He was just laying there lifeless. Don't nobody ever wanna see that, ever."
Lewis lives here with her four-month old son and says the sounds of gunshots has turned into white noise.
"I had to go in the house and kiss my baby over and over."
The coroner hasn't released the victim's name yet, but people in Fair Oaks say he went by "Dre." They say he was known for his loud personality.
"He was a nice person. Loved to have fun."
"He was too good of a person for that to happen to him."
Neighbors lined the sidewalk with candles and a teddy bear where his body was found just hours before.
"Terrible tragedy."
Police haven't found a suspect, but surrounded this apartment Wednesday. They thought they had a lead, but found nothing inside.
"Ain't nobody doing nothing about it evidently because, now look. We got one person dead."
These people want justice for their friend, and want their kids to be shielded form scenes like this.
"We are killing each other."
"It's like a dream."
The Fair Oaks neighborhood is holding a candlelight vigil for Dre.
