MAHOMET -- A little girl's Christmas wish came true last month. She got to meet her soldier pen-pal in Georgia. It was the first time they met face-to-face.

They've sent many letters back-and-forth over the years. With thousands of miles between them, you can imagine how special it was to see each other in person.

8-year old Sophie Deck first started writing Veronica Davis when she was in 2nd grade. For Christmas, her parents surprised her with a plane ticket to meet her friend.

She and her grandmother made the trek to Atlanta last month. Sophie's mom even helped her pick out a special outfit to wear for the big day, including sparkly shoes, white tights and that tutu, plus an Army t-shirt and a red, white and blue bow on top.

Sophie was all decked out and so excited to meet Veronica. All her waiting paid off.
