Transportation bill makes moves

SPRINGFIELD -- The state could see more transportation projects this spring thanks to a bill passed by a House committee Monday. Lawmakers had to decide what to do with $675 million in leftover cash from last year. That money is only allowed to be used for transportation.

Advocates want the funds to be appropriated sooner rather than later; that way the state can start bidding out for different contractors. If they miss that window, it'll be too late, and they'll have to wait another year to start on some of these projects.

The bill now heads to the House floor. It's sponsored by House Speaker Madigan.
