SPRINGFIELD -- The State of Illinois is going green and getting notices. It was ranked 4th of 50 for the most LEED Certifications.

A building gets a LEED Certification when it takes extra steps to be environmentally friendly. Illinois certified 156 projects in 2012.

One was Booker T. Washington Elementary in Champaign. The governor says it's part of a special commitment Illinois has to the environment. There are 50-other projects in the works likely to be LEED Certified, including some work at UI.
