Pool welcoming disabled swimmers
Updated: February 1, 2013
The community raised money to fix sewage problems, but the park district had nearly $40,000 left over. That money will go toward making it accessible for handicapped swimmers. The park district is putting in a lift, handicapped stalls and widening doorways.
"You see one kid that might need it and that's worth it all right there. One kid that hasn't been able to gain access to the pool, now he or she will be," says Neal McKenry, the park district's recreation director.
After this round of renovations the district will have $7,000 left. That money will go toward its rainy day fund. Everything is expected to be finished when the pool opens Memorial Day.
