More delays during tax season

CHAMPAIGN -- They always say file early, but this tax season many are finding out they may just have to wait for their return. Usually people can start filing their taxes in the beginning of January.
This year, they had to wait until January 30. Even now, the IRS doesn't seem to be ready.
"We've had people standing, waiting. Appointments are back-to-back. It's been really busy here." says tax preparer, Marya Hardin.
Fiscal cliff talks pushed the filing date back three weeks. Now taxpayers have to wait even longer to file their returns because dozens of forms aren't ready yet.
If you go into a tax preparation company, you will find them packed with people ready for their refunds. However, if they need a form for say, an education credit for example, they're going to have to wait weeks.
This year the IRS switched its processing systems and tax preparers don't have the forms yet. Many are choosing to file now, get some money, then come back when the form is ready, but that process will just cost you more money.
"You're being told by your tax preparer, 'you can't have it now, you have to wait four to six weeks to get it and you're going to have to pay me $88 to amend this tax form.' You know, that's frustrating!" says Hardin.
Another thing is the economic impact. If filers don't get their refunds, they don't have money to spend. Hardin advises the best way to handle this is unfortunately to wait for those forms.
