TUSCOLA -- A preschool program closed for the day, thanks to flu season. Head Start just didn't have enough teachers. WCIA-3's Jessica Shaw finds out more.

The school has seven teachers, but four just couldn't make it in Tuesday. Teachers say they've never seen it this bad. There's a different sound coming from the Head Start classroom.

"Just sanitizing everything and anything."

They hope it's enough to stop the flu.

"There's nap-time and lunchtime, so it's hard to function when you're down to two or three people."

It's not just here. This year's flu has hit all the Early Start programs hard.

"In Mattoon, we had one person out one day, and before that, we had two people one day. It was rough."

"It's a huge difference. We have staff in the kitchen, so even with one person out, it's noticeable."

It's not just teachers.

"One or two kids were out all week."

That's why they're hard at work making sure those who are healthy stay that way, and those out sick come back soon. Crews wipe down everything on a regular basis, but they're making a point to do it more often because of the flu. School officials expect class to be in session Wednesday.
