DECATUR -- A man was arrested after a standoff with police. Officers were called to a home in the 1000-block of East Leafland Monday afternoon.

A woman told police her live-in boyfriend had hit her. Melvin Lowe locked himself in the house after police tried to confront him.

Police say he threw things at them from an upstairs window. He also waved kitchen knives in a "threatening manner" while demanding officers shoot him.

Lowe finally surrendered to a negotiator. He faces multiple charges including domestic battery and aggravated assault.
