SPRINGFIELD -- More than 600 schools made the 2012 State Honor Roll. The program is based on standardized tests and demographic information.

It's broken up into 3 categories: Spotlight Schools, Academic Excellence and Academic Improvement. Downstate schools made up 39% of Honor Roll schools.
