Aquifer coalition could gain more support

DEWITT COUNTY -- Dewitt County and the city of Clinton may soon join other local governments looking to protect the Mahomet Aquifer from pollution. Officials from both will meet next month to decide if they'll accept invitations from the Mahomet Aquifer Coalition.

The aquifer provides water to about 750,000 people in the area. Champaign, Urbana, Decatur and several others in the coalition are working to stop the Clinton Landfill from dumping PCB's on top of the aquifer.
