SPRINGFIELD -- Nearly 2 million people in Illinois don't have health insurance. Help could now be on the way for those in Springfield.

A major grant will help a clinic add staff and more services and could also help those on Medicaid. State budget cuts have hurt those patients. Many aren't getting the same care as before and some can't even find a doctor to treat them.

SIU Center for Family Medicine says it's sad to see, and one of the reasons it has an open door policy. Dr. Janet Albers says they want to help everyone. Now, that will be easier since the clinic won a grant worth $600,000.

The money will allow them to treat more patients, not just those on Medicaid, but those who are uninsured as well. The clinic is also expanding its hours and staff.

Services are getting ready to grow as well. They'll soon have orthopedics and gynecology. As Albers said, they really want to treat everyone. She says, even if you don't think you can afford it, come in anyway. They'll try to work with you.
