URBANA -- Attending the UI will cost a little more next fall. The Board of Trustees voted unanimously to raise tuition rates.

It's actually the smallest increase in almost 20-years. New students starting in the fall will pay nearly 2% more in tuition or roughly $200 more a year. Tuition will range from $9,000 - $11,000 depending on the campus.

Trustees also voted to raise housing costs. Some students say it's something they've come to expect. Every year the cost of something is going up. The UI president says the increase is on par with inflation and is lower than before because of cost-cutting measures they've tried to implement the past few years.

Previously, tuition hikes have been as high as 9.5%. University leaders say their goal, as always, is to maintain affordable, quality education.

There has been a steady increase in tuition costs for in-state undergraduate students from 2004 - 2013. The last time the increase was "small" was 2008 - 2009.
