U.S. Reps from Illinois support "No Budget, No Pay"

Updated: January 23, 2013
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Wednesday, all U.S. Representatives in the state of Illinois, with the exception of three Democrats, voted to pass a bill withholding paychecks for members of Congress until a spending plan is approved. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-IL) says the "No Budget, No Pay" legislation will hold Congress accountable while putting America on a "debt repayment plan" and prevent future generations from bearing the brunt of current fiscal mistakes.

According to a press release from Davis' office in the 13th District:

The legislation, H.R. 325, provides a temporary suspension of the
nation's debt limit until May 19, 2013, while requiring members of
the Senate and the House to adopt a budget resolution by April
15, 2013, or face having their pay withheld. ...(It) was carefully
crafted to honor both Article I and the Twenty-Seventh
Amendment to the U.S. Constitution because it does not vary
a Member's compensation, instead it simply holds it in escrow
until the time that a budget is passed or the 113th Congress
    comes to an end.

H.R. 325 passed the House with bipartisan support in a vote of 285-144. The three Democratic Representatives voting against the legislation are Danny Davis (7th District), Luis Gutierrez (4th District) and Jan Schakowsky (9th District). Rep. Bobby Rush (1st District) did not vote and there's a vacant seat in the 2nd District.
