CHARLESTON -- The man who inspired a blood drive, wasn't there to see it. Mike Drake needed an Eagle Scout project. The Kid to Know was thinking of something involving a lot of physical activity.

His dad suggested a blood drive. He'd been fighting cancer for three years, so the family knew all about the need for one.

Mike got to work taking care of publicity, set up and raising money to buy food. Unfortunately, Mike's dad passed away the day before the drive. Mike says his dad made him promise he would go ahead with it no matter what. And, that's exactly what happened.

It was a success. Mike's goal of 30 people was nearly doubled when 58 people rolled up their sleeves. Even more special? Mike's dad laid the foundation for the church hall where the drive was held many years ago.
