SPRINGFIELD -- Doctors aren't taking the flu outbreak lightly. They're asking everyone to get vaccinated.

According to new numbers from the state, there's a good reason why. Since flu season started, 50 people have died, and another nearly 500 have been hospitalized. Many of the victims were over 50 years old.

Reports show only 40% of people actually get the shot. That means more than half are going unprotected. Doctors say the vaccination is your best defense against getting sick.
