Champaign parents meet with superintendent

Updated: January 17, 2013

CHAMPAIGN-Parents sat down with school leaders to ask the tough questions.

Supper with the superintendant happens every few months. The point is so parents can have a meal and talk about issues with Judy Wiegand.

Wiegand has been in office for a year and says her focus has been upgrading facilities and programing.

However lately she's been getting a lot of questions about safety.

"Unfortunately, with the massacre that took place in Connecticut and Sandy Hook, security and safety is on the mind of our parents. I've been asked that question when I go out to different service clubs and talk, so that won't surprise me...we'll certainly continue to have that conversation," says Judy Wiegand, Unit 4 Schools Superintendent.

Wiegand says since Sandy Hook the district has been in talks with police about improving safety in Unit 4.
