Police search for donation thief

Updated: January 16, 2013
CHARLESTON-- Police need help identifying a man they say stole donations from a gas station.

The man visited the Casey's General Store Monday. He told workers there that he was part of a group collecting money for someone in need of kidney transplant. He said he was there to pick up the money customers donated to a can on the counter.

When the person who actually placed the can there came back, they were told it had been taken by someone else.

Anyone who has information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Charleston Police Department at 217-345-8422. Information can also be left by contacting Coles County Crime Stoppers at 866-345-8488.
