CHAMPAIGN COUNTY -- Poverty is becoming a problem in our own backyard. Champaign County is near the top of that list.

A new report put out by a chicago group says 23.4% of people in Champaign County live in poverty. That means for a family of four, you're living off less than $23,000 a year. Champaign County is second only to Jackson County at nearly 34% and Alexander County at a little over 31%.

Darlene Kloeppel at the Champaign County Regional Planning Committee says it all goes back to jobs.

"Because of the downtown in the economy, we've seen more people who were gainfully employed at one point and are now not or underemployed," said Kloeppel.
