URBANA -- Volunteers are helping feed the hungry. They're doing it through the University of Illinois.

The Wesley Evening food pantry distributes groceries for needy families once a month. Volunteers were helping prep for that Wednesday. Crews spent the day unloading three truckloads of food for the pantry. Dozens were there to unpack and sort the donations. This kicks off the U of I's Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Celebration. It's a week long event where the university encourages students to get involved and volunteer their time.

"This may be the only time that they volunteer here," said Pantry Director Donna Camp. "We are really tickled that they can be part of the celebration."

The MLK celebration goes until Saturday, January 26th.

The Wesley Evening Food Pantry will be distributing food the third Thursday of every month from 4 to 8:30pm.
