CHAMPAIGN -- Police are reaching out to people in the community as part of a new campaign. Officers played dodge ball with some kids in a PSA released this week.

Champaign Police Department's outreach coordinator said the video shows officers doing things they've already been doing in the past, but people may not have heard of yet. The SRO's and patrol officers in the video were part of the Fitness 5-O program at the parks district this past summer. They want people to know that seeing cops doesn't always have to be a bad thing.

They plan to make more that will be about crime prevention and recruitment. The production costs came out of the department's community outreach budget. One of the CPD officers came up with the first video and he's working on a couple more.
