fireSIBLEY - Firefighters from more than 50 communities around the state met up to get some freebies from the Fire Marshal's Office Sunday. More than 275 fire houses in Illinois got free laptops and printers, for the state's new emergency call reporting system.

The new system eliminates the paper trail and makes reporting calls as easy as point and click. Ford County's Sullivan Fire Protection District Chief says he can't wait until the new system is in place. "It's going to make my job a lot easier rather than sitting down and filling out the paper form, which was like 20 pages and took you a while to do." He says the change is good for smaller communities and older firefighters, to help everyone in the state move forward in the use of technology.

Representatives from the Fire Marshal's Office says the technology is also useful in identifying trends and areas of improvement in individual fire houses.
