CHAMPAIGN -- It wasn't the winter the local Salvation Army had hoped to achieve.

It's raised about $390,000 so far through red kettles and mail-in donations. But that's still about $66,000 short of its goal. They were leaning on donations to help their men's shelter. Now they're planning on how to fill that void. But kettle donations did increase this season by 12%.

"This is my first year in Champaign, but it was very much what people told me to expect. A very generous community and the donations have been very good," said Major Tom McDowell.

Even though Champaign County came up short, you can still help the cause. Donations are being accepted until the end of the month.
