School district talks about adding more safety measures

CATLIN -- The school district isn't taking any chances when it comes to student safety.  School leaders met last night to talk about increasing security measures.

It is in response to what happened at Sandy Hook Elementary.  The superintendent says the shooting hit close to home for him.  That is because he says Newtown, CT reminded him of Catlin, small town and close knit.

That is why he is hoping to implement some new safety measures within the next few months.  Right now the high school already has nine cameras spread throughout the two building campus and there's only one door for visitors to come and check-in.  The superintendent wants more.

Last night at the school board meeting they discussed putting magnetized locks on some of the doors.  Students and staff would have to use a FOB key to get in.

That is something the elementary school already has.  The superintendent says he hopes to add more cameras there and change the way people enter the building to check-in.

Also since the Sandy Hook shooting, the superintendent says Catlin police have increased their presence at the schools. They try to walk around at least once a day.
