White horse inn demolition

Updated: January 10, 2013
CHAMPAIGN -- After years of back and forth, a landmark is being torn down.

The White Horse Inn has been on Green street since 1973. A new location is up and running on John street, but locals are upset to see this spot go.

Soon it'll be turned into a five story apartment building. Regulars stopped by to take pictures of what they say is a part of history.

"It was a nice little place. It was a place where townies and where U of I students could mix comfortably," Kent Bergmn said.

"It's a very sad feeling. A lot of memories come from the White Horse. I'm sure a lot of people feel the way I do. It's like such memories, it's an icon here in town," Lisa Hettinger said.

The next door Garcias Pizza is also expected to be torn down.
