Gaming bill gets a second chance

Updated: January 18, 2013

SPRINGFIELD - A gambling bill passed 18 months ago is on its way to Gov. Pat Quinn's desk, and it could renew hope for a casino in Danville.

The senate president held the bill, which was passed by the house and senate back in 2011.  It was released just before the end of the 97th General Assembly on Tuesday.  A new class of lawmakers took over on Wednesday.

The bill, which was criticized by the governor when it passed, includes provisions for five new casinos, including one in Danville.

It also calls for slot machines at horse racing tracks and Chicago's two airports.

Quinn has 30 days to decide whether or not to sign the bill.
