Champaign teachers honored

Updated: January 8, 2013
(Champaign) - Unit 4 teachers are proving hard work in the classroom pays off.
Six are now recognized as national board certified teachers for this school year.
Tina Cowsert is one of them.
She's a 3rd grade teacher at Carrie Busey.
To earn her new title, she had to pass a test, video-tape and analyze her teaching, and prove her students are learning.
"I was over the moon, so excited," she said.  "It's definitely the hardest thing I've done so far, yet it's the best thing I've done. It's improved my teaching tremendously and I know I'm a better teacher just for going through it."
Renee Hunt,  from Centennial High School and Lindsay Polarek from Central High School also earned the honors for this school year.
Both are math teachers.
Dana Lamkin, a teacher for the deaf and hard of hearing, is also being recognized for her hard work.
In all, forty-eight teachers and school psychologists in the district have received the certification.
