Still a tough road for pension reform

Updated: January 18, 2013

SPRINGFIELD - State house lawmakers did not vote on a controversial new pension reform measure during one of their final days of lame duck session.

After the measure passed out of a state house committee early Monday, the full house did not address the bill before adjourning.

Many are concerned the proposal may face a court battle over constitutionality.  Experts say that battle may be necessary.

The proposal would increase state worker contributions to the pension system.  It would also freeze cost of living increases for retirees and increase the retirement age to 67.

The state house could address the bill during the final day of its lame duck session Tuesday.
