Handicapped Association thankful for Mayor's help

DANVILLE -- People are praising the mayor for saving a wheelchair ramp. The Vermilion County Handicapped Association built it. It is helping a 5-year old boy get into his house but over the weekend his family thought they may lose it.
Mayor Eisenhaur says it was all a misunderstanding. Everything is resolved now but it caused a commotion on Facebook especially on our WCIA 3 page.
"We build wheelchair ramps and we've been doing it since 1987," said Kip Sullivan. He is the president of the organization.
Last October the Vermilion County Handicapped Association built a ramp on Kentucky Avenue.
"There's a boy in there that needs it. Five year old boy that had an asthmatic attack and went into arrest and going through rehab," said Sullivan.
Mayor Eisenhaur says it was all a misunderstanding. Everything is resolved now but it caused a commotion on Facebook especially on our WCIA 3 page.

Sullivan says his organization builds about 15 ramps a year. He's never seen this.
"It was just kind of a shock when you've been doing it for so many years. When you see a sticker like that on the door and it makes you a little upset," said Sullivan.

So he called the city to see why it was there.
"They told me I needed to get a permit and said we never had to had to have a permit in 25 years we've been doing this. This is news to me," said Sullivan.
And news for people on Facebook. Sullivan and many others headed to our WCIA 3 page to share their complaints and questions. Mayor Eisenhaur was ready to answer them. He wrote, "I was completely unaware this had happened and can assure you will be rectified on Monday."
"I had good response from the residents of Vermilion County and I got a positive response from the mayor, he's a stand up man," said Sullivan.
The mayor has lived up to his social media word. He says the Handicapped Association never needed a permit and the ramp can stay. He is just asking from now on, they give the city a heads up before they build.
"I told him that'd be no problem. No problem at all. I'd be glad to do it," said Sullivan.
