Senator Kirk returns to Washington

Updated: January 3, 2013
WASHINGTON D.C.-- Nearly a year after suffering a stroke, Senator Mark Kirk returned to Capitol Hill.

"Because I was improving so rapidly, I thought about this day a lot and knew I could nail it," Kirk said.

His colleagues cheered him on as he climbed the 45 steps to the Capitol. Vice President Joe Biden was there along with Illinois Senator Dick Durbin. Kirk did not speak on the Senate floor.

The Senator plans to continue rehabilitation in Washington.
