SPRINGFIELD -- A local bishop isn't enthusiastic about the Marriage Equality Bill.   Today Bishop Thomas John Paprocki sent a letter to Catholic leaders around the state.  He asked them to read it during their services this weekend.

In it he says, "The pending bill would, for the first time in our state's history, redefine marriage to legally recognize same-sex marriages.  But neither two men nor women.. can possibly form a marriage.  Our law would be lying if it said that they could."

He also urges people to contact their representatives about voting 'no.'

Since people have to go to a county courthouse to get a marriage certificate, then it is a government issue and not a church issue at all. If marriage is only allowed because the church says so, then what about all the people that get married in city parks, at country clubs, and yes at courthouses, and a t drive-thru las vegas quickie wedding places? I guess that all these people are NOT married? But they get rights to health insurance, hospitalisation visits, legal decision making for minor children, pension benefits, and tax-free wealth transfers via a will upon death, or an automatic distribution under state laws when there is no will. Nothing at all to do with a church! Marriage, as recognized by society AND the government, and by private employers, health insurers, medical providers, schools, etc - are all based on the GOVERNMENT certificate of marriage. Not on whether the marriage ceremony happens inside a church or not.

I believe in an Almighty God. I believe the Bible is the Word of God. I believe the Word is the same today as it was in the beginning. There are many paths in life but, only one path to God. That path is through Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Jesus came to this earth to save the lost(sinner). What you two females(males) do is up to you, but to be ordained before God Almighty, forget it. Your path down the marriage isle, whether or not Il. passes it, is a path to eternal damnation(hell). I am only repeating what the Bible says. It's your life, it's your choice. God does give us the choice to choose. Choose the right path!
