Lawmakers wait on gun legislation

URBANA -- The senate could be waiting to tackle the issue of gun control.
Two bills have been proposed on the issue. One would ban assault rifles; the other, high-capacity magazines. Waiting would be good news for those against the bills.
"It's one of those thing that they're approaching it the wrong way," says gun owner and gun shop owner Dave Costley. He runs Dave's Firearms in Urbana. Costley thinks lawmakers aren't thinking the proposals through.
"My wife and I both shoot," said Costley. "Most of my friends shoot because I'm in this business." He says the bills would effect those people the most. "What they're trying to do is take firearms away, and limit the amount you can have. That's not the problem."
The two bills were introduced in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting. And if passed, several of the weapons banned are firearms largely used in competitions or hunting.
For that reason, Costley and many who come in his store believe the measure just won't work.

I'm not happy with the possiblity of losing my gun!! I think that if Illinios changes the law about owning guns isn't going to change anything. Bad people will still get their guns and the good people now just won't be able to protect themselves. I just bought a gun with my son that will possible be under this new law if passed and I will not be happy if I'm made to give it up!!!!

Wait...... Wasn't there just a story stating that Senator Cullerton stated that it was totally false that any bills relating to this would be proposed? More lies and dirty Illinois politics. The amendment to HB 1263 that is a proposed firearms ban applied to all semi-automatic rifles and pistols with detachable magazines. It was not an "assault weapons" ban it was an attempt at a near complete firearms ban for our crooked state.
