Cullerton under fire by ISRA
Updated: January 4, 2013
SPRINGFIELD -- Gun advocates are keeping a close eye on the Capitol after rumors of a possible gun ban started circulating on the web.
The Illinois State Rifle Association sent out a press release claiming that Senate President John Cullerton was pushing for a ban that would make most guns illegal.
WCIA-3 talked to Cullerton's Office about the allegations, and his rep says that could not be further from the truth. They say the only thing they're looking into is whether their caucus would back an assault weapons ban. If they decide to, then a bill could be introduced during session. What it would actually include isn't clear. They did say though, it would not ban most guns.
The Executive Director with ISRA says they are sticking with their claims and believe some sort of gun ban will be proposed.
Governor Quinn wants to see an assault weapons ban. He's tried to get one passed before, but it was struck down by lawmakers during Veto Session in 2012. Whether they'll be on board this time around remains to be seen.
