WEDNESDAY 1/2/13 6:30 P.M.
SPRINGFIELD -- Gun advocates are keeping a close eye on the Capitol after rumors of a possible gun ban started circulating on the web.

The Illinois State Rifle Association sent out a press release claiming that Senate President John Cullerton was pushing for a ban that would make most guns illegal.

WCIA-3 talked to Cullerton's Office about the allegations, and his rep says that could not be further from the truth. They say the only thing they're looking into is whether their caucus would back an assault weapons ban. If they decide to, then a bill could be introduced during session. What it would actually include isn't clear. They did say though, it would not ban most guns.

The Executive Director with ISRA says they are sticking with their claims and believe some sort of gun ban will be proposed.

Governor Quinn wants to see an assault weapons ban. He's tried to get one passed before, but it was struck down by lawmakers during Veto Session in 2012. Whether they'll be on board this time around remains to be seen.

This story is false. Cullerton and his dirty Chicago politics attempted to push through legislation banning the majority of modern firearms during this lame duck session. They used an amendment to an existing bill to attempt to push this through unnoticed. Here is a link directly from the general assembly website with one of the proposed amendments: http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/fulltext.asp?DocName=09700HB1263sam005&GA=97&SessionId=84&DocTypeId=HB&LegID=57242&DocNum=1263&GAID=11&Session I hope WCIA does the right thing and exposes the lies they have been told about this effort by Chicago politics to override the res of the state.

Attached is a link to the FBI reports for 2011. It will show fewer deaths by rifles, aka, assault rifles than by hands, feet, shoving etc. Take a look. Though the figures are incomplete for Illinois , go figure, they are available for the nation. Firearms aren't the end all our leader would have you believe. The assault weapons bill is a smoke screen because they have no answer for the violence. http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2011/crime-in-the-u.s.-2011/tables/table-20
