SPRINGFIELD -- The Lieutenant Governor is getting some help from Hollywood to promote gay marriage here in Illinois. It's an issue lawmakers are expected to take up during lame duck session.

Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson and his partner are gay rights advocates. Both of them are on a two day tour with Sheila Simon. They're trying to raise awareness about the issue. Sponsors of a bill supporting the cause say they're confident gay marriage will become legal this year.

Ferguson agrees. He says everyone should have the right to get married, not just in the land of Lincoln, but nationwide too.

The actor also runs "Tie the Knot" with his fiance. The non-profit sells unique bow ties. Money raised goes towards different organizations that support marriage equality. The couple will also be sporting bow ties on Thursday in Springfield for "Bow Tie Lobby Day." They want gay rights advocates to rally at the Capitol.

Not everyone is thrilled by the cause. Critics say marriage should be between a man and a woman.
