Federal unemployment program stops

ILLINOIS -- A federal program that helps the unemployed get a check stops today.

The Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) program has ended.

It gave benefits to unemployed people between weeks 26 and 53. State benefits only last through 25 weeks. The Illinois Department of Employment Security says about 90,000 people in the state are eligible for EUC.
