VILLA GROVE -- The show goes on for Gemini Cinemas. The movie theater has been a staple in the Douglas County community for decades but it closed back in 2011.  Now a new owner is fixing it up and hopes to reopen it next month.

"It's been a great benefit that I've enjoyed for, ever since I was a kid," said Jody Eversol of Villa Grove.

Now him and his neighbors will get to enjoy that benefit again.  That is because the curtains are opening soon at Gemini Cinemas but first it needs a little make up.

Unique Homes in Charleston is the new theater owner.  They've been fixing it up for the past two weeks.

"The roof leaked, we're fixing the whole entire roof and we're repainting the whole place.  We're putting new floor coverings down.  We're gonna redo the concession area up here, redo the bathrooms," said Chris Miller.  He is the project manager.

The goal is to fill the theater seats as soon as possible.

"It's very nice to be able to stay right here in town," said Eversol.

Besides a shorter drive, it'll also be easier on your wallet.

"The prices per ticket are lower than the theaters in Savoy and Mattoon.  It'll be more cost effective," said Miller.

Eversol is just looking forward to his downtown feeling whole again.

"Its a great place for kids to gather.  It kinds of fits in really well with the other businesses in town," he said.

Ticket and concession prices still have to be set.  The owner hopes to run generally new releases and family films.

Miller says the theater isn't up to date when it comes to switching to digital projection.  They plan to use their current projectors until they can find a solution.
