CHAMPAIGN -- Same-sex couples in Illinois are getting a boost in support from an unlikely place.

More than 250 religious leaders from around the state are asking lawmakers to pass gay marriage. They say it is the moral thing to do. Couples say it is not about religion though. They just want to be treated equally under state law.

Lawmakers are expected to take up the issue in Springfield next week. Supporters are hoping to pass a bill to make gay marriage legal. Critics, however. want to ban it in our state's constitution.

Comments

There is an apparent difference between religious leaders and Christanity! I believe in God's Word, the Holy Bible. You say it is the moral thing to do(gay marrage), then read God's Word. Where do our morals come from? How much clearer does it need to be? Satan may rule the earth, but God is still in control!
