DANVILLE -- People braved the cold to remember those who died in last week's shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary.

On Saturday, the last victims were put to rest in Connecticut. People in Illinois honored their lives and the 23 others at a vigil. Chase Whorrall came up with the idea. He said he wasn't sure what to do after he heard about the shooting. So he organized a vigil with a minute of silence for each of the victims.

"They just started showing up and I'm really happy they came out into the cold and they're going to spend thirty minutes of their time to Americans and the kids that died," said Whorrall. "When I saw what happened, it really touched me so I figured we should do something for the kids and the families."

"I'm sorry for the kids that died and the kids' parents and families," said 7-year-old Alexa Conover.

Whorrall said they're trying to turn a negative into a positive and encourage people to be there for each other. Friends and families held each other close and prayed something like that doesn't happen again. Whorrall said he hopes the silence sets the tone for change and helps quiet the pain for families suffering.
