Weather Vault: Mini Blizzard on 12/20/12

A strong area of low pressure moved through central Illinois prompting blizzard warnings and high wind warnings.  Overall, a trace to 2 inches of snow was reported, but the winds were the bigger story.  Gusts reached over 60 mph in the evening and continued to howl into the morning.

Clark County
Marshall:  57 mph (6:19 PM)  Reported at IDOT station I-70 at Highway 1 exit. 

Christian County 
Pana:  62 mph (4:42 PM)  Reported along with windspread power outages in town.
Taylorville Airport:  56 mph (4:55 PM)

Edgar County

Casey: Large tree limbs blown down causing power outages in town at around 4:00 PM.   

Effingham County
 
Montrose:  Semi blown over at 2300th street and 1600 ave at 4:45 PM
Watson:  At 4:17 PM, a large tree was uprooted, though it was nearly dead.

Logan County
Lincoln:  A blizzard was repored at 4:10 PM with multiple vehicles stalled on Interstate 55 south of Lincoln.  Power was out in the cities of Latham and Chestnet. 
Lincoln:  A blizzared was reported at 5:34 PM with a multi-vehicle accident at mile marker 6 on interstate 155 north of Lincoln.  This was due to strong wind, snow, and low visibilities. 

Menard County  
Greenview:  1 dead tree snapped at trunk. 

Sangamon County
Riverton:  A dead tree 3 feet in diameter knocked down onto Route 54
