Man hospitalized after being hit by squad car

SPRINGFIELD-- A man is in critical condition after being run over by a Sangamon County Sheriff's squad car.

It happened early Saturday morning on Price Street near Highland. The Sheriff's Office says James Schmitt, 34, was lying on Price Street when he was hit. The deputy involved said he didn't see Schmitt.

The department is still investigating the incident.
