Police say a man walked past her and ripped her purse away from her. He took off. The purse was found a short time later on West Main outside the Consolidated Science Lab. The woman's cash was gone.
Sgt. Tom Geis said, there has been an up-tick in crime recently. Investigators say that's not unusual around the holidays. Geis added, "We've been working with Champaign and Urbana Police Departments to determine any type of pattern or trend for these. Right now the times, dates, locations are all over the board."
In this purse snatching, police are looking for a black man in his mid 20's, between 5' 5" tall to 5' 9" tall. He was last seen wearing a red knit hat with red braided ties hanging down each side near his ears. It was white inside and the bill was folded up. He was also wearing a dark orange or red sweatshirt with dark pants.
