Concealed carry law coming soon

Updated: December 11, 2012
SPRINGFIELD - A federal appellate court ruled Monday that a statewide ban on concealed weapons in Illinois is unconstitutional.

The ruling, issued by the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, gives the state 180 days to craft and pass legislation to allow citizens to carry concealed firearms.

The court's opinion found there was reasonable evidence to show that allowing a citizen to carry a firearm in public would provide a level of self defense.

The Illinois Attorney General has not said whether she will appeal the case to the Supreme Court.  She is still examining the decision.
