CHAMPAIGN -- Police are helping out an elderly couple who was burglarized this weekend. Someone stole all the Christmas presents that couple bought. They had already wrapped them for their grandchildren.

Burglaries happen year-round but officers that came to the scene on Saturday night were touched by the situation and wanted to help out. They pooled a couple hundred dollars to give the couple so they could buy their gifts all over again.

The officers also set up a collection at the police department. That's where people in the community can donate money. You can do that through the end of the week.

The couple is doing okay. They are a little shaken up. The burglar had to walk right past the room they were sleeping in. After buying back the presents, they couple plans to donate extra money back to the community.
