GEORGETOWN -- Ridge Farm Elementary is closing its doors.  It is apart of a plan to balance their budget.

Georgetown-Ridge Farm schools held a hearing tonight.  Closing the school is part of the plan, the other half is raising taxes.

The school district is dealing with a deficit of $1,000,000.  So tonight they voted to raise the tax levy by more than 5%.  That is 14% more than what they raised it last year.  People in the area filled the meeting tonight, all filled with hesitation about the changes.  They think losing the school will decrease their property value.  The superintendent says it could help get rid of the deficit within three years.

Closing the school will save them about $300,000.  They are also closing the district offices.  The superintendent says she can work out of the high school.

The district plans to close the school and unit office at the end of the 2012-2013 year.
